Principal Message

Hello! My name is Genevieve Beaird and I have the honor of being the principal at Arellanes Junior High. I have worked in the Santa Maria Bonita School District for the last 5 years as an assistant principal and dean in the junior high schools. I enjoy working with junior high students, families, teachers, and staff. I really believe that junior high school is an exciting adventure.

Junior High is a very critical time for growth and development.  Here at Arellanes Jr High, we are committed to preparing students for high school. They will learn successful practices including organization, planning, communication, and teamwork.  They will learn to move through four classes each day, five classes for each semester, and six different classes throughout the year.  They will also learn what each teacher expects of them and how to keep track of all their school requirements.

The best advice that I have for students at the junior high school level is to get involved with something good at school. Get involved in a club, sport, or something that interests you. We have many different activities: from Builder’s club to ASB/student council, from cake decorating to cheerleading, from knitting beanies for babies to jazz band, Hawk tv to tutoring, and basketball team to lunchtime soccer. And so much more--did I mention ASES, AVID, Battle of the Books, math superbowl, volleyball, track, soccer, art, google tech, and after-school technology. As a student at Arellanes Jr High, you have the opportunity to learn and have fun during your time here at school.

The best advice that I have for parents is to be active in their student’s lives both at school and socially. We have parent group meetings for School Site Council (SSC), Parent Teacher Student Council (PTSC),  and EAOP (Early Academic Outreach Program with USCB). Beyond the school involvement opportunities, stay active in your student’s social lives. Get to know their school friends and families and most importantly, get to know their social media lives as well. Check in on their facebook, instagram, snapchat, vine, kik, and/or musically accounts as a regular basis. I just opened up my own snapchat account so that I can keep up with my kids at home!

We are proud of our traditions of excellence here at Arellanes Junior High. I believe that we have an outstanding school and campus. Our students, staff, and families know that when you are an Arellanes Jr High Hawk, you are like family.
